Services for Gene Edward Gurley, 65, of Tecumseh and formerly of Pontotoc County are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada. Chaplain Mike McCauley will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
Mr. Gurley passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at his home.
He was born Jan. 12, 1953, at Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Alva Lee and Zella Mae Aday Gurley. He graduated from high school in Kansas and received a bachelor's degree from Mid America Christian University.
He married Deborah Louise Carr on Oct. 31, 1996.
Mr. Gurley was in law enforcement from 1971-2005. He served as a park ranger at Lake Thunderbird, as chief of police at Stonewall and as a CLEET instructor. Later, he served as a paramedic.
Mr. Gurley enjoyed hunting and fishing and had served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie, of the home; three daughters, Stephanie Smith, Newalla, Carrie Janke, Oklahoma City, and Sara Thompson and husband, Jeremy, Norman; two sons, Travis Gurley and wife, Alison, Marietta, and Adam Gurley and wife, Kyla, Earlsboro; 12 grandchildren, Blake, Kamryn, and Kyle Smith; Jade Keene; Nicholas, Brooklyn and Eli Thompson; Keegan Reid; Kalyn Janke; Lidda Gurley; Alton Gurley and Jaxon Gurley; and a great-granddaughter, Aryabella Dawn Keene.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jimmy Lee Gurley.
Bearers will be Travis Gurley, Adam Gurley, Jeremy Thompson, Blake Smith, Kyle Smith and Keegan Reid.
