Eugene R. Hunter, 98, of Dunnstown passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Susque View Home, Lock Haven.
Born October 14, 1923 in Pittsburgh, he was the only child of the late Clarence and Mary Bubb Rayhorn. As a toddler, he was adopted by Frank and Jennie Hunter.
After graduating from Lock Haven High School, he joined the United States Army. He served in Europe during WWII under the direction of General Patton and earned two Battle Stars before being Honorably Discharged.
On August 20, 1945, he married his love, the former Jennie H. Lachat, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage before her passing in 1993.
Gene was employed by Piper Aircraft, serving as the Head of Stock Rooms. He was a member of the Piper Band, playing the clarinet. He remained employed there, retiring at the time of their closing.
He was a faithful member of Dunnstown United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
Gene was a people person and enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel L. (Jean) Hunter of Linden and Richard L. (Edna) Hunter of Blanchard; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 3 great, great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 12 Noon at Dunnstown United Methodist Church, 59 Church St., Dunnstown with Rev. Jay Saldana officiating. Interment at Rest Haven Memorial Park with Military Rites will follow.
Friends and family will be received at the church on Friday from 11 A.M. until the time of the service.
