WILLIAM R. GARDNER, 91, of Decatur, Ind., passed away on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at Adams Woodcrest. Born in Jason ville, Ind. on April 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Thomas and Floral (Davis) Gardner. On Dec. 4, 1955, he married Norma Kay Campbell and they celebrated 62 years of marriage together. Bill was a 1945 graduate of Jasonville High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the China Theatre of Operations. He then went on to graduate from Butler University, the New York Trust Administration School, and the National Trust School at Northwestern University. He had a 39-year career in banking and retired in 1990 from Lincoln Bank & Trust. He was a member St. George's Episcopal Church in Berne. Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Kay Gardner of Decatur; a daughter, Denise (Fred) Kunkel of Decatur; a sister, Bonnie Stark of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Fred (Becci) Kunkel of Decatur, Margaret (Adam) Holley of Turlock, Calif., and Hannah Kunkel of Decatur. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Walters and a brother, Robert Gardner. A Requiem Eucharist of the Resurrection is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 at St. George's Episcopal Church, 1195 Hendricks St., Berne, with visitation one hour prior from 10 to 11 a.m. Presiding will be Father Larry Smith. Burial will take place in Gravel Hill Cemetery in Bryant, Ind. Memorials may be made to St. George's Episcopal Church. The arrangements are being handled by Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, Decatur.
