Lowell E. Morgan was a native of Hill Co., TX., being born and raised in Vaughn & Hillsboro, TX. Lowell attended Hillsboro schools & graduate of Hillsboro High School in 1955.

Lowell married Barbara Ann Davidson, 17 Sep 1959, Hillsboro Baptist Church, Hillsboro, TX., and has three children.

Lowell was a dedicated career U.S. Army officer, Major, fixed wing aviator, Service No. OF 102357, KIA, who had served his country for 10 years. His Vietnam tour of duty began on 20 Aug 1966 & he was a combat non-hostile area casualty, when his OV-1C Mohawk aircraft crashed on 3 Jun 1967. Lowell was a Captain & was posthumously promoted to Major.

Capt. Morgan & his avionics technical observer SP4 Robert Bruce DeMello was on a night infrared reconnaissance mission, when the inclement weather attributed to the late night crash on Gia Ray Mountain, Xuan Loc Province, South Vietnam. The 73rd AVN Co. duty officer at Vung Tau Province, noted that the crew was overdue & inquired to find a report from a military unit in the vicinity of Gia Ray Mountain USAID radio repeater station installation, that a explosion on the mountain was reported. Search & Rescue efforts could not start until the weather subsided. The next morning when the clouds & fog lifted from the mountain, search & rescue found the crash site 150 ft. from the mountain top. Aircraft 61-2715 was destroyed & Capt. Morgan ejected prior to impact but was killed in the attempt. SP4 De Mello remained in the aircraft & perished on impact.

73rd Aviation Co., 210 Combat Aviation Battalion, 12th Combat Aviation Group, 1 AVN BDE, Major, Pilot, OV-1C Grumman Mohawk.

Awarded: Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, National Defense Service Metal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Metal & (2) Vietnam Service Metals.
