Abijah Thomas Marrs.
The above named died at his home at Penningtons Point at five o'clock Monday. He was one of the old residents in the locality in which he lived.
Abijah Thomas Marrs, son of Henry Bradshaw Marrs and Polly Hammer, his wife, was born at Tompkinsville, Monroe county, Kentucky, Feb 12, 1831, and died at his home at Pennington Point, Jan. 29, 1900.
He came to Illinois in December, 1853. He was united in marriage with Elizabeth B. Pennington, eldest daughter of Richard and Delilah Pennington, Jan. 1, 1857. Of the four children born of this union, two survive, Luella B., wife of Rev. Wm. B. Shoop, of Bradford, Ill., and Dr. Richard F. Marrs of Sciota, Ill.
Deceased had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at the Point since 1862. In its work and success he was greatly interested. During his sickness, which extended over a year, he derived great comfort from the gospel truths, and met the last enemy, death, with unwavering faith.
Funeral services will be held at the church at Pennington Point today, at 10:30 o'clock. Rev. Thos. S. Pittenger, his pastor, will preach the sermon.
