Clara Young, 84, received her reward of eternal rest on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Kingwood Medical Center.Clara Mae Jones was born November 15, 1926, in Evergreen, Louisiana to Edward and Ethel Johnson (. A longtime resident of Galveston she was a former parole officer, nurse, and cook at Rice University. She was a member of the Welfare Right Organization, marched along with Dr. Martin Luther King as a young woman of 37 years old. She enjoyed music one of her favorite songs by artist Johnnie Taylor “These Last $2” kept her dancing. She was a very outgoing and joyous person, who was loved by all, and lived life to the fullest and loved her family.She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Luma Jones & Edward A Jones, two sister Doretha Jones & Lulabell Jones and husbands, Horace Byrd, Sr. and Phillip Young. She leaves with precious memories, sons, Horace (Pamela) Byrd, Jr., Charles Byrd, Anthony (Patricia) Byrd, Samuel; Byrd and John Kelley; daughters, Pamela (George) Austin, Shirley (Robert) Johnson, Patricia Byrd, Michelle Young and Susan Young; 42 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren; brother, Johnnie (Mercy Dee) Jones; special friends, Mrs. Jessie Brown and Manuel Coleman; host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.Visitation will be held today, August 12th from 4-8PM at Fields-Johnson Family Mortuary. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 10:00 am at the Live Oak Baptist Church with Pastor Vernon L. Baines officiating. Family will have a private burial.
