Steve married his first wife Della Vernay Martin on 04-02-1953. After Della died on 04-09-1989, Steve married his second wife, Johnnye Ruth Lindley Bassham.. Steve joined the U.S. Air Force in December of 1947 and retired in March 1971. During his career, he obtained the rank of Sergeant and was a Flight Engineer. He logged nearly 5000 flight hours and flew missions in Korea and Vietnam. He received injuries during his Air Force days but refused to apply for any medals. After leaving the military, he started a new career with Garrett Air Research which later became Honeywell and retired there in 1990. A hard working man who loved his family, sports and his motorcycle.
