Amherst ~~ Gladys Faye Vinson (nee Hardin), 82 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Community Health Partners H & S Center in Lorain following a lengthy illness. She was born August 28, 1926, in Franklin County, Alabama, where she was raised until 1947, then moving to Nashville, Tennessee. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1953, which has been her home since that time. Faye was employed as a Nurse at Amherst Manor Nursing Home and Golden Acres Nursing Home for 17 years. She also worked with Dr. Wagner in Amherst, as well as other doctors doing EKGs at the Amherst Hospital. Formerly a member of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst, where she worshipped for 23 years, she has been an vibrant member of Church of The Open Door in Elyria for 25 years. She was active in the Ladies Bible Study Group, Prayer Partners and many other church fellowships. her hobbies included sewing, camping and going cruises. She loved animals by especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Charles William Vinson; her daughters and their husband, Barbara and James Shelson of Lorain and Hilma and Richard Shehan of Wakeman; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; her brother, Haston Hardin of Alabama; and her sisters, Grace Massey of Brook Park, Ohio and Joyce Mathis of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston and Velma Hardin (nee Powers); and by her brother J.W. Hardin during World War II. Friends may call Friday, January 9, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. at the Hemple Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. Rev. Bill Williams associate pastor at Church of the Open Door in Elyria, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
