Katherine "Tati" Aileen O'Neal Ryan, 74, resident of Houma, died peacefully at 2:40pm Thursday, May 19, 2016.
Visitation: 6-9pm, Wednesday, May 25th, at Falgout's Funeral Home; 1-2pm Thursday at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church with Mass to follow.
Tati is survived by daughters, Tricia Ryan Landry and husband, Michael, of Houma, and Camala Ryan Scott-Wilson and husband, Malcolm, of Wales, United Kingdom; 8 grandchildren, Katelyn, Catherine, Andrew, Jonathan, Robin, Jamie, Toby, and Joshua; 4 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Reuben, Nolan, and Frida; two godchildren, Mary and Wayne, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents, A. Deutsche O'Neal, Sr. and Mary Katherine Sanders O'Neal; husband, Charles "Chuc" Ryan; brothers, A. D. O'Neal, Jr. and H. Sanders O'Neal; and grandchildren, Sarah and Jaxom.
She graduated from All Saint's Episcopal School in Vicksburg, Mississippi, yet Tati was an alum of Terrebonne High's class of '59. She was a student of art, particularly painting, drawing, and pottery as well as landscape architecture, studying at both Nicholls State University and Louisiana State University. She was fond of cooking, photography, and thoroughbred racing. She gave art lessons, was a past-member of the Krewe of Hyacinthians, and was involved in the Louisiana Iris Society. She was a closet meteorologist and would have made a spectacular geography teacher. Extremely empathetic, she would lend an ear and shoulder to ease the suffering and consciences of others. She loved old movies, good jokes, and great food. If she could be anywhere, it would either be somewhere she could sip coffee and sketch, at Grand Isle, or on the open road with the wind in her hair.
Denoting her size, she referred to herself as Big Mama Tot; however, the things that truly made Tati the Big Mama were her giant hugs, massive smile, and the huge love she had for her beloved daughters, her dearest friends, and all those she considered her extra children. Tati was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
