Frances M. “Honey” McCarthy, age 93, of Bessemer, passed away on July 13, 2018 at her home, with her family and her best friend Margie by her side.
Honey was born on April 30, 1925 at her father’s gas station in Morton Grove, Illinois to Francis and Mary (Walleck) Turner. She was a 1943 graduate of Ontonagon High School. After graduation she attended St. Joseph School of Nursing, Class of 1946. On June 7, 1947 she married James E. McCarthy at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon. He preceded her in death on November 25, 2007. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Grand View Hospital, as head of the Obstetrics Department.
Family was very important to Honey. She was a caregiver for first, her children and later, her grandchildren. Honey and James built a cottage on Lake Gogebic, and they enjoyed many years there with family and friends. She was a member of the Lake Gogebic Fireflies. She also loved animals, especially dogs. After she retired, she loved to spend winters in Florida. She also learned to love many new hobbies. She learned to ride a bike at age 62. She also enjoyed snowmobiling, playing cards, especially Bridge, Cross-Country Skiing and snow shoeing.
She was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and did volunteer work for the church making pasties. She also volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, one brother Thomas (Alvira) Turner and a sister Winefred (Martin) LaBrie.
Visitation will be from 10-11 am on Friday, August 31 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Dominic Agyapong at 11 am at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer.
Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.
