He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P), Lodge 139. One of Big Pat's proudest moments came in 1984, when he became a charter member of the FOP Ohio Labor Council and the first full time Union Representative for law enforcement in the State of Ohio. He served 24 years before retiring from the FOP at age 63. In addition to Big Pat's professional career, he volunteered countless hours as a coach for Hot Stove, North High School Girls basketball and several AAU basketball teams that competed nationally.
On July 27, 2018, Big Pat achieved his greatest accomplishment by joining the company of angels and saints in heaven. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary; his siblings, Dennis, Leonard, Michael and Maggie; and grandson, Larry. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Mary Lou; children, Shaun, Kelly, Shannon, Frank (Julia), Angela (Sean), Patrick (Latassha) and Kathryn; grandchildren, Anthony, Frankie Jr., MacKenzie, Sierra, Joe, Kierra, Dominic and Donovan; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron. Burial will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hennessy Funeral Home (corner of York and Main) 552 N. Main St. Akron.
