Margaret Jean Graves, 81 of Marblehead, passed away with her loved ones by her side on the morning of Sunday July 22, 2018 at Salem Hospital after a long battle with illness.

Margaret was born in 1937 in Marblehead where she was raised by her loving parents Frederick and Carrie (Russell) Vent. She attended Marblehead public schools growing up and she graduated from Marblehead High School, where she went onto the Nursing Program at Salem Hospital to continue her education to become a nurse. She later went onto work for the North Shore Children’s Hospital.

Outside of her work, she met the love of her life Emerson Graves and got married on May 9, 1959. They went onto start their family in Marblehead and raise their two children Brenda and Todd.

Her passions spread far and wide as she was an avid skier throughout the New England region. But above all, her true passions were her friends and family as she made sure to fill her days by spending time with them.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 59 years Emerson Graves; her daughter Brenda Gale of Dover, NH; her son Todd Graves and his spouse Corinne Hollon Graves of King George, VA; her grandchildren Heather Bragdon and spouse Christopher of Dover, NH, Fallon Gale of Marblehead, MA, Patrick Graves of King George, VA, Ciara Graves of King George, VA, and Cailin Graves of King George, VA; her great grandchildren Marley Bragdon, Mya Bragdon, and Morgan Bragdon of Dover, NH; and her siblings Mary Williams and Barbara Doherty. She is predeceased by her daughter Betsy Graves, who passed away February 6, 1977.

A service will be held on Tuesday August 7th, 2018 at Waterside Cemetery at 1:30 PM, located at 294 W Shore Dr, Marblehead, MA. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Center Institute in memory of Margaret Graves to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA.
