Michael Aloysius Donovan, 72, passed away in Waxahachie, Texas, on August 6, 2018. He was a loving husband, devoted father and the best friend anyone could have.

Mike was born in Waxahachie on August 22, 1945. He was a third-generation resident of Waxahachie where he lived most of his life. He was a graduate of Waxahachie High School and North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) in Denton where he attained a bachelor’s degree in finance. Mike served in the US Army, 2nd Battalion 9th Infantry Division in Korea attaining the rank of first lieutenant. He was honorably discharged after completing his service.

Throughout his life, Mike pursued several different careers in and around Ellis County and Dallas County. He was extremely proud of his military service and his tenure as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 in Waxahachie. He felt that being a Justice of the Peace allowed him to help the people of his community through the good and bad times in their lives. He was a friend to many people and was always known to have a funny story, a nugget of wisdom, or a quote at the ready. He never met a stranger and would drop anything he was doing to help a friend. An ardent animal lover, Mike loved his dogs and cats, and was even known to feed hungry raccoons or possums if he found one.

Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Ann Donovan, his son Michael A. Donovan, Jr. and his wife Emmy of Houston, his daughter Erin of Waxahachie, his daughter Jenny Haddock and her husband Howard of Austin, Texas and his three grandchildren, Lilly Donovan of Houston and Isabelle and Elin Donovan of Waxahachie. He is also survived by his three brothers Pat Donovan and his wife Beba of Chicago, IL, Tom Donovan and his wife Susan of Dallas, TX, Victor Donovan and his wife Susan of Las Vegas, NV, his sister-in-law Janice Bryan and her husband Woody of Denison, TX, brother-in-law Wayne Bounds and his wife Melanie of La Veta, CO, and his brother-in-law Ken Bounds and his wife Linda of Watauga, TX. He also has numerous nieces and nephews living throughout the United States.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ursula and Joseph B. Donovan of Waxahachie, as well as his mother and father-in-law, Irene and Benjamin Bounds of Arlington.

Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 10, 2018 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
