Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 12:30–1:30 p.m., prior to the service. Arrangements are being handled by Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel.

Burial will take place at a later date in Zealand, ND, where she will be buried with her mother. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Ann’s friends and relatives. Active pallbearers are: Barbara Walker, Lena Glines, Alvina Sexton, Eileen Mattern, and Eugene Mattern.

Ann was born on January 25, 1922, in Glencross, SD, to Conrad and Caroline (Welder) Mattern. She went to grade school there until her family moved to McIntosh, SD, where she attended high school for three years.

In 1941, Ann moved to Seattle, WA, and went to work at Boeing Air Craft for a few months. She went to Tacoma, WA to stay with a friend and took a job at the Safeway Super Market in the meat department. She remained there for two years until she accepted a job at the Naval Depot and worked there until 1945. The Naval Depot cut back on their employees when the war ended. At that time, Ann took a job at the Oasis Tavern.

Ann married Roy Harbeson on June 7, 1947, at Fort Lewis, WA, after which they moved to McIntosh. They left McIntosh and moved to New Albany, IN, where she worked for thirteen years at the Kroger Stores in the meat department.

Ann divorced Roy in January 1964, and married John Greene in May of 1964. They moved to Louisville, KY. She accepted a job at Scotty’s Meat Department where she worked for seven years. She divorced John on December 15, 1969, and moved to Paducah, KY, in 1976, where she remained until 1984, before moving to Washburn, ND. She worked for Friese Truck Manufacturer’s for three years and also for the John Deere dealership until 1992, when she retired. She then worked for Ted and Barbara Walker, taking care of the apartments that they owned.

She was faithful to having her hair and nails done weekly since 1947, and her clothes were always ironed, as per her Aunt Kate’s advice. She liked being in charge. In her younger years, Ann loved to dance. She watched the daily mass twice a day on EWTN and prayed the rosary three times a day. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and past member of Saint Edwards in Washburn, ND.

Ann is survived by two brothers, Eugene (Eileen) Mattern, of Aberdeen, SD, and Paul (Loretta) Mattern, of Watertown, SD; three sisters, Lena Glines, of Mobridge, SD, Alvina Sexton, of Derby, KS, and Barbara (Ted) Walker, of Sturgis, SD.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents, Conrad and Caroline; and her brothers Peter, Frank, Bernard and John.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception School.
