Natalie Rose Smith, 96, passed away peacefully in Bradenton, FL. Born in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Beatrice and Harold Skelton, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 yrs, Gordon, and beloved daughter, Pamela Schaetzel of Bird Key, FL. Natalie met Gordon in High School, love bloomed and she soon became the wife of an Army Lieutenant, subsequently blossoming into the role of mother to six children, 3 boys and 3 girls. As years passed and the kids grew, Natalie and Gordon spent time traveling from Alaska to Mexico in their RV, and visited many other parts of the world. They retired in 1980, relocating from Illinois to Longboat Key enjoying sailing, golfing, and many visitors from up north. Eventually Natalie and Gordon moved to Freedom Village to enjoy their remaining years together. Natalie will be remembered as talented, creative, beautiful and always a lady. She was a wonderful Mom, and will be dearly missed by her children, Dan (Lucy) of Florida, Susan Chapman of Illinois, Laurie (Rich) Kern of Illinois, John of Florida, Tom (Terri) of Illinois; brother, David (Jane) Pinson of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and extended family and many friends. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery.
