Clint LeRoy Young Bloomington—Clint L. Young, 74, died, Tuesday, August 7 at his residence after battling pancreatic cancer for the last 19 months. He was born June 5, 1944, in Monroe County, the son of Leva G. (Young) Young and George Huser Young. Clint graduated from University High School with the class of 1962 where he played football and was a part of the school's first chess club. He attended Purdue University for one year but was unable to continue due to a summer construction accident in which he fell and endured multiple injuries. He later worked in retail and manufacturing. Following his retirement from Griner Engineering, he worked for five years as a security officer for the Indiana University Library. He married Diana Neal from Vincennes in 1966. Ten years later they adopted a two and a half year-old boy whom they named William Keith Young. They divorced two years later and Clint reared his son alone. After being single for 35 years, he married Charlotte (Wampler) Martin in September of 2013. He often told others that it was the best thing that he had ever done. Although they were raised less than two miles apart, they only met in recent years where they both attended the same church. They are members of New Prospect Baptist Church. Clint was an avid reader enjoying murder mysteries (novels and movies), was very mathematically inclined and enjoyed playing Sudoku, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and best of all playing cards with family and friends. He loved music and always had the Music Choice Easy Listening channel on. He was a gun collector and quite the marksman. He was predeceased by his father, baby sister Martha Jane, and younger brother, William R. Young. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother, are his son Bill (Tracy) Young; grandchildren, Morgan, Paige, Clint Logan, and Billy; a step grandson, and a step great grandson; stepsons David, Sam, and John Martin and their families, and sisters-in-law, Janet Lottes Young, Eva Woods and Amy Thurman. Calling hours are on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Deremiah Frye Mortuary; 700 West Gourley Pike. A service of remembrance will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. also at the mortuary. Interment will follow in Chambersville Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Clint in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Gideons International.
