Obituary for Mr. Leslie Buford (Buddy) Clanton
Leslie Buford (Buddy) Clanton, 91, of Albany, GA, passed away at 10:30PM on Tuesday Aug 7, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 3:00PM at Kimbrell-Stern. Pastor Gerry Dorre and Norman Denny will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #30 Honor Guard.
A native of Quitman, Brooks County, GA, Mr. Clanton was born on November 17, 1926 to the late Leslie W. and Ora Lee Eason Clanton. He attended public schools in Albany and had lived in Albany since October 1927 before moving to Lee County in 2013. He was a veteran of WWII serving 1944-1947 in the U.S. Navy and six years in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He served aboard the USS Vanadis, AKA 49 and the USS Missouri, BB63. He was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church for many years; a member 1978-2004 of Leesburg Presbyterian Church having served 22 years as an Elder, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Sunday School Men's Bible Class in Albany, GA since April 2005.
Mr. Clanton was employed with Postal Telephone and Telegraph Company as a Messenger, Teletype Operator and Repairman. 1940-1943; Atlantic Coast Line Railroad as Chief Yard Clerk for 16 years; U.S. Postal Service as Postmaster of Dawson, Georgia and retired 02 January 1987 as Superintendent of Postal Operations of the Albany Post Office; Before Buddy's retirement he set a goal to have approved and constructed a much needed Postal Station in the East and West sections of Albany, these two stations were built and are serving Postal Patrons today; he leased and managed the American Legion Golf Course, 1987-1992; he supervised 15 men for the movement of new and used vehicles for Aultman Motor Company 1994-2006; employed 2006-2008 with the Albany Herald Classified Ad Department.
Mr. Clanton became a member of the American Legion Post #30 in 1947 and is in good standing with 70 plus years. As a member of Post 30, he was active during the 1960-1970's receiving several awards; He served as the Advisor of the Air Explorer Squadron 4 sponsored by the Post which was recognized by the U.S. Air Force for duty performed in the Ground Observer Corp, an award from the BSA, Albany Chehaw Council, plus other awards. Albany Civil Defense; Member of the Sons of Confederate; U.S.S. Missouri Association, Inc.; Southwest Georgia Genealogical Society; Thronateeska Heritage Center; National Association Retired Federal Employees; He assisted coaching in Little League Baseball and his Midget Football Team won the the City Championship. He enjoyed fishing the rivers and Florida Bays with his family and friends, playing golf having two hole-n-ones and once shooting his age 69, working in his yards at home and traveling. He loved to research his ancestors and in doing so completed six books with 250 copies throughout the USA and Australia.
In addition to his parents Mr. Clanton was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Harris Clanton, son Kenneth Alan Clanton, Sr., two sisters Eva Ruth Clanton Creighton, Betty Huff York and son-in-law Edgar O. Cole, Jr.
Survivors include his wife Mary McCall Clanton of Leesburg; a daughter Gail C. Cole of Mexico Beach, FL; son William C. (Bill) Clanton, (Reames) of Lee County, GA; five grandchildren April C. Massey (Todd) of Donaldsonville, GA; Robert B. (Buddy) Winborne (Dana) of Warner Robins, GA; K. Alan Clanton, Jr. (Courtney) of Colquitt, GA; Colin R. Clanton (Stephanie) of Chattonooga, TN; Blake R. Clanton (Rachel), Lee County, GA.

Visitation will be 2:00PM Saturday at the funeral Home. Kimbrell-Stern is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 1211 13th Ave. Albany, GA 31701 or their favorite charity.
