Virginia Beach - Nellie Mae Butler, 93, passed away on August 6, 2018 in Virginia Beach. Nellie was born in Newtown, VA to the late Buck and Nellie Baldwin. She is also predeceased by her husband, Robert Butler, Sr. and her siblings, Timmy and Bealey Baldwin, Joyce Milburn and Lorene Lipscomb. After moving from rural Newtown to Norfolk she met the love of her life, Robert while he was serving in the US Navy. She made her life taking care of her husband and children. She loved cooking and is noted for her liver and onion gravy and her grits and eggs dishes. She is survived by her sons, Robert, Buck and Timmy Butler and a daughter, Leila Butler Batman; brothers, Clarence and Thomas Baldwin; sisters, Mary Rice, Carolyn Brooks and Gaynell Moore; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and extended family.

There will be a visitation from 5-7pm, Friday at Smith and Williams Funeral Home Kempsville. There will be graveside service at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.smithandwilliamskempsville.com.
