On Thursday, August 2nd, Justin Leon Wright answered the Lord’s call and passed away quietly at his home. He was born on August 8, 1929 to Edward “Buster” Wright and Lillian Love Wright and has been a lifelong resident of Pascagoula.

His parents were committed to his Catholic Education, so he traveled both to Mobile and New Orleans to school to ensure this goal was met. It is said that he was one of the first in the area to get a high school diploma, which he received from Xavier Preparatory School in New Orleans. Soon after, he joined the Navy where he was an Aerial Photographer documenting military events and accidents. After one tour of duty, Justin returned to Pascagoula where he worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding and drove the bus for his church, St. Peter the Apostle on Sunday, before joining the U.S. Postal Service. As a Postman, Justin became the first Black Letter Carrier in the Pascagoula Branch. He was a dedicated Postal Union Representative and fought passionately on behalf of his coworkers. He was well known all over the city in every neighborhood, as he walked most of his route in those infamous postal shorts and that blue (safari style) pith helmet. After his retirement he supported his mother by helping to manage Rainbow Kindergarten in the years prior to its closing. Having the need to continue to connect with the community and all people whom he loved, he served as an usher, a CCD instructor and a member of the Knights of Peter Claver at his church, he volunteered at Singing River Hospital with the Auxiliary (Pink ladies), and he worked tirelessly every October during the Jackson County Fair. He extended his love, counsel and wisdom to anyone in need of help and to his many family members both near and far.

He was preceded in death by his parents (Edward and Lillian) and his only brother Peter. He leaves to cherish his memories, his sister Henrietta Vann, his children Judy Barnes Coffey, Claudine Knowles (Houston) Cunningham, Gregory Wright, Pierre McInnis, Iris Wright-Simpson and Justin (Taiya) Wright, Jr., a stepson Ron (Adrienne) Davis, and his special extended family the Bridges - Eleanor Douglas, Joycelyn (Robert) Walters, Jacquelyn (Wilson) Mosley, Jerilyn, Juandalyn, Roger(Caroline), Roderick and Rosalyn, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson, nieces, nephews, and many cousins and friends
