Mr. Samuel R. Jordan, more affectionately known as “Smokey,” was born March 8, 1960, to the late Mrs. Annie Maude Tripp Jordan and the late Mr. Ruben Jordan Sr., in Reynolds , Taylor County, Georgia. At an early age, he joined Saint Phillip A.M.E. Church. He maintained his membership throughout his life time. He was presently serving on the Steward Board and as treasurer of the church.

He received his early education in the Monore County School System. He graduated from Mary Persons High School with the Class of 1978. After graduation , he began working like most men his age. He found employment with Thomaston Mills. He was employed with Thomaston Mills for over twenty years until their closing. He enrolled at Flint Technical School and earned his CDL license. He later found employment with the Department of Transportation. He worked faithfully until his health began to fail. In 1978, he met Ms. Melodie Carter. They shared their life relationship until they were married on June 30,2001. This made his life complete. He was the father of three children, and the grandfather of six. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Throughout his life he was an avid sports fan. He played first base for the original Culloden Wrecking Crew Baseball Team. He coached football and baseball for a number of years for the Thomaston Recreation Department. He enjoyed attending all types of sporting events, especially watching his son run track. Watching Sportscenter on ESPN was his favorite pastime. He also enjoyed socializing with family and friends in the community. He was well known for his words of wisdom and no nonsense advice to young people.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Ruben Jordan, Jr. On Thursday, October 19, 2017, the Lord saw his son in distress. He whispered his name, and he answered, and his spirit took flight and went home to rest. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mrs. Melodie Jordan of Culloden, GA; three children, Mr. Jared Jordan of Culloden, GA, Ms. Erica Reed of Warner Robins, GA, and Ms. Briyda Howell of Butler, GA; six grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Alice (Walter) Robinson of Decatur, GA, and Mrs. Jacqueline (Larry) Holmes of Roswell, GA; one brother, Mr. Melivn Jones of Culloden, GA; one uncle, Minister Horace (Dorothy) Rutherford of Culloden, GA; mother-in-law, Mrs. Nellie Carter of Yatesville, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Seretha Robinson, Ms. Gwendolyn Carter, and Mr. Gary (Belinda) Campbell, all of Yatesville, GA, Ms. Marjorie Carter and Mrs. Debra (Timothy) Holmes both of Barnesville, GA, Mrs. Wanda (Albert) O’Neal of Griffin, GA, Mr. James (Shirley) Carter of Indianapolis, IN; three devoted friends, Mr. Calvin Haygood, Jr., of Valdosta, GA, Mr. Kenny Sneed of Thomaston, GA, and Mr. Billy McCary of Culloden, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
