Pfc. Soenksen of Davenport, Iowa was a 2005 graduate of Davenport North High School where she participated in choir, softball and the ROTC Program enlisting in the Army soon after graduation. Prior to that she attended John F. Kennedy Catholic Elementary School. Katie was born the daughter of Ronald L. and Mary Ann Lovejoy Soenksen and was married to Benjamin Rowella a specialist in the United States Army. She was determined in everything she did in her life and prepared herself for an Army career by joining the ROTC in high school. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Warren and Donna Lovejoy and Walter Soenksen. Katie was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Army Good Conduct Medal for her service in Iraq. She died of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near her vehicle at age 19.
