Carlos "Shorty" Holland, 81, Lafayette, Tenn., died Sept. 24, 2004, at his home.
He was a retired farmer and school bus driver for the Macon County school system; a member of the Enon Missionary Baptist Church; and a well-known gospel singer for many years.
Born in Macon County, Tenn. on Nov. 17, 1922, he was a son of the late Jim and Versie (Shaw) Holland and the husband of Faye (Owen) Holland, who survives.
Other than his wife, survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Richard Bell, Somerset, and Margaret and Dwight Dotson, Lafayette; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Laura Holland, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; five step-children — Martha and Junior Jenkins, Gallatin, Tenn.; Wanda Owens and Sandra Lawrence, both of Lafayette; Dennis and Alice Owen, Red Boiling Springs, Tenn.; and Roger and Tabby Owen, Hillsboro, Tenn.; two brothers, Guy Holland, Lafayette, and Elder Melvin Holland, Gamaliel; two sisters, Lena Birdwell and Patsy Murray, both of Red Boiling Springs; the mother of his children, Genell Holland, Lafayette; seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Naomi Holland and Ivy Craig, and a brother, James Holland, all preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, with Bro. Jerry Gammon officiating. Burial was at the Scott Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Larry, Kerry and Johnnie Holland; Lewis Mahaney; Donald Cherry; and Perry Craig. Honorary pallbearers were Harrison Jenkins, Wayne Holland, and Timmy, Kenny, and Jerry Craig.
