TOWN OF ULSTER - Augustus S. Brinnier "Gus", 89, of Sherry Lane, Town of Ulster died on Feb. 2, 2011 at Albany Medical Center. His wife Lily Benjamin died Feb. 24, 2008. He was born in Kingston on Dec. 5, 1921, a son of the late Augustus S. and Katherine Pehlman Brinnier. A veteran of the U. S. Marines from 1942 to 1946, he served as an officer in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He served in China, Japan and Guam. He was a graduate of RPI where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. In 1951, Augustus S. Brinnier began a land surveying practice from his home in Kingston. In 1956, Mr. Brinnier formed a partnership with Christus J. Larios and the firm became Brinnier and Larios, Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. The firm was incorporated in 1974 to become Brinnier and Larios, P.C., and continues to operate today from its offices at 67 Maiden Lane, Kingston. He was appointed to the Rondout Savings Bank board in 1966, where he went on to serve as Chairman of the board. He was a founding member of TIDA Investment Club, was a past member of the Twaalfskill Country Club and Wiltwyck Country Club. He served on the board of the Benedictine Health Foundation and the Wiltwyck Cemetery Board. He is survived by four daughters and two son in laws, Katherine Ann of Fairfax, Calif., Barbara B. Zell and her husband Christopher of Hurley, Dale B. Davidson of Fly Creek and Carol B. Angelo and her husband Raymond of Huntington Valley, Pa. He has five grandchildren, Patrick Zell of Kingston, Andrew Zell of Hurley; Claudia, Natalie and Vanessa Angelo of Huntington Valley, Pa. He is also survived by two great granddaughters, Grace Kelly Zell and Luciana Belle Elliott. Gus, as he liked to be called was a devoted fan of the New York Giants. He had season tickets since 1956. He enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Florida and Bermuda. Friends will be received at the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Ave. Kingston, NY on Saturday afternoon 2 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, the Rev. Charles Stickley officiating. Cremation will follow Wiltwyck Crematory. Gus will be interred at the Wiltwyck Cemetery next to his wife Lily.
