Kathryn B. Tempest
  Kathryn Blackett Tempest died peacefully at home on Tuesday June 27, 1989, of cancer.
  She was a woman who inspired authenticity. Her life was devoted to family and ideas. Born on August 6, 1906, in Nephi, Utah, to Florian Cazier and Laurence Blackett. She graduated from East High School where she met J. H. (Jack) Tempest, Jr. They were married on November 28, 1930. She taught elementary school after graduating from the University of Utah. She was affiliated with the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
  She is survived by her husband and two sons, John Henry Tempest III, and Richard Blackett Tempest, and his wife Ruth. She is also survived by three sisters and a brother: Marion Blackett, Carol Barrell, Jonnie Bullen, and Orson Blackett. Her brother, Marx Blackett, preceded her in death. As a teacher and student of the natural world, she gifted her grandchildren with her exuberance. They are Terry Tempest Williams, Brooke Williams, Steve Tempest, Ann Peterson Tempest, Robert Tempest, Elizabeth Hansen Tempest, Lynne Ann Tempest Earl, Steve Earl, Dan, Mike, Hank, Matt, and David Tempest. Her great grandchildren are Callie and Sara Tempest.
  A graveside service will be held Friday, June 30, 1989, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Diane Dixon Tempest Scholarship Fund, 304 Park Building, University of Utah, SLC, UT 84112. Funeral directors, Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.
