Benjamin Lee Owens, age 73, of Ypsilanti Township, long-time Belleville area resident, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI. He was born November 28, 1944 in McKeesport, PA, son of the late James Clifford & Lois Marie (Whitmire) Owens.
Ben worked for General Motors Hydromatic Plant for 24+ years before retiring as a Skilled Trades Painter. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 735. He was also a member of Community Free Will Baptist Church, Ypsilanti, MI, where he was the head usher. He enjoyed bowling on leagues at Lodge Lanes and with his church. He loved fishing, driving, and talking. He never met a stranger.
Survived by 6 children: Benjamin E. (Mary) Owens of Sumpter Township, MI, Howard (Nancy) Owens of Belleville, MI, Barb Owens-Guerro of Ypsilanti Township, MI, Matthew Owens of Ypsilanti Township, MI, Timothy (Kelly) Owens of Westland, MI and Michael (Kym) Owens of Texas; his children's mother Mary Owens of Belleville, MI, 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren with two more on-the-way, brother Rev. Paul (Roberta) Owens of Wyandotte, MI, also numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents, sister June Burr, also two brothers Roy and Jimmy Owens.
Visitation will be 3-8 PM Friday, August 3, 2018 with an 11:00 AM Funeral Saturday, August 4, 2018 at David C. Brown Funeral Home, 460 E. Huron River Dr., Belleville, MI 48111-2764 (734)697-4500. Interment will be in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, MI.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Community Free Will Baptist Church, American Kidney Fund, or Alzheimer's Foundation of America, and would be appreciated.
