A well-known settler, in the person of Mr J. G. C. Cox, of Hinemoa, died in a private hospital at Pahiatua early on Saturday morning. Deceased a few weeks ago underwent a critical operation for an internal complaint. His condition some days ago became such as to hold out no hope of recovery. He was formerly farming at Te Mai, Wairarapa. He leaves a widow and a large grown-up family of sons and daughters.

The funeral of the late Mr Jos. G. C. Cox took place at Pahiatua on Sunday, Rev H. W. Monaghan, M.A., officiated and the Masonic brethren attended. Deceased was born in Wellington 63 years ago. He went to Featherston and for thirty years lived at Te Mai where he was a station manager. The last twelve years he had a sheep farm at Hinemoa. The family comprises Messrs W. Cox (Mangatainoka), W. J. Cox (Managamuta), C. H. Cox (Carterton), C. B. Cox (Pahiatua), A. N. and H. H. Cox (on active service) and Private C. A. Cox (who is on sick leave from camp). Mrs F. Robbie (Waihoki Valley), Mrs W. Gillespie (Woodville), Mrs Wiggins (Stratford), Mrs Bassett (Hukanui) and Misses Cox (three)
