Civil War Union Army Officer. He served as Major of the 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, and assumed command of his regiment during the Battle of Chancellorsville when his commander, Colonel Henry Brown, assumed command of the First New Jersey Brigade. He then led the regiment during its fight at Salem Church during the Battle. He was later was wounded and transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps, where he was Major of the 24th VRC.
