Annie Catherine Wyatt Hudson died peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2018. A native of Raleigh, Catherine was born on May 13,1921 to Lulie Marshall and William Luther Wyatt, Sr. Growing up on East Park Dr., she attended Raleigh Public Schools, Needham Broughton High School and worshiped at First Baptist Church downtown. Upon graduating from Meredith College in 1942, Catherine also attended New York School of Interior Design and Hardbarger Jr. Business College.
On June 7, 1952, Catherine married Karl Grier Hudson, Jr., whose family was friend and neighbor to the Wyatts in Cameron Park. She transferred her church membership to join Karl at White Memorial Presbyterian Church and was actively involved in Sunday School, Women ofthe Church and various church activities and volunteer work. She was in the DAR, Stratford Book Club and several neighborhood garden and sewing clubs. She loved being married to Karl, being amother and homemaker and gardening in their yard on White Oak Rd. Before Karl passed away in June, 2006, they celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Surviving are their three children, Catherine Ann Hudson Godwin, Karl Grier Hudson, III and Richard Wyatt Hudson and wife, Freda Jones Hudson; grandchildren, Alexander Hudson Godwin, Alexander Herschell Grier Godwin, Jason Alexander Godwin, Catherine Grace Godwin Bettinger and husband, Matthew Jordan Bettinger, Karl Grier Hudson, IV, Trevor Godwin Hudson, Ashley Claire Hudson Rice and husband, Charles Austin Rice, Jr., Jennifer Anne Hudson and fiancé, Christopher Gray Harrell; great-grandchild, Charles Austin Rice, III. Catherine is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews, whose kinship she treasured.
She was predeceased by her mother and father; brother, William Luther Wyatt, Jr. and his wife, Mary York Neal; brother, Edgar Marshall Wyatt and his wife, Katherine Dickinson Wyatt: sister, Frances Wyatt Nipper and her husband, Russell Nipper.
Catherine had a quiet grace and style. She will be remembered always as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who painted beautiful pictures, celebrated nature every day, feeding the birds and recycling rain water, and anchored her family with her practicality and limitless love. Special thanks to all her friends and the staff at Magnolia Glen for their friendship, love and support.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11am on Monday, August 6 at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd., Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the service in the Jane Bell Gathering Space at White Memorial. Aprivate interment will take place at Historic Oakwood Cemetery prior to the service.
