Italian Artist, Author, and politician. He is probably best known for his paintings "The Battle of Legnano" (1831) and "Combat of Rinaldo and Gradasso" (1839) . He was also a novelist whose chief works were "Ettore Fieramosca" (1833) and "Niccolò dei Lapi" (1841). As a politician, he served as President of the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of Sardinia (May 1849 until November 1852) and Senator of the Kingdom of Sardinia (October 1853 until January 1866). He was the recipient of numerous awards, including theKnight of the Grand Cross of the Order of Saints Maurizio and Lazzaro, the Officer of the Military Order of Savoy, the Knight of the Civil Order of Savoy, the Silver Medal for Military Valor, the Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Joseph (Grand Duchy of Tuscany), the Knight of the Grand Cross decorated with the Great Cordon of the Order of Leopold (Belgium), the Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Legion of Honor (France), the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Savior (Kingdom of Greece), the Grand Cross of the Order of Christ (Kingdom of Portugal), the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Immaculate Conception of Vila Viçosa (Kingdom of Portugal), the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands (Netherlands), and the Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III (Spain). He died at the age of 67.
