Curtis G. James, age 85 of Crystal River, passed away on July 27th, 2018 after an illness.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on August 1, 2018 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

He was born December 12, 1932 son of the late David and Elizabeth James of Scranton, Pa.

He is survived by his loving wife Margaret (Peg) H. James, Crystal River; two sons, Kenneth B. of Syracuse, NY and Jeffrey A. of Byers, TX, a grandson Joshua A., six great granddaughters Zhamén, Walela, Kayly, Gwyneth, Freyja, and Cordelia, one great grandson James C., all of Wichita Falls, TX, a sister Marjorie Grippa of Scranton, PA and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Shirley L. Davies of Scranton, PA and a brother, John D. of Scranton, PA.

He was a graduate of Scranton, PA City Schools, Keystone College and Syracuse University. He was a Certified Public Accountant in Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio and a retired partner of PriceWaterhouseCoopers with whom he spent most of his professional career in New York City, Syracuse and Binghamton, NY, Cleveland, OH, and St. Louis, MO. He owned his own consulting firm of CGJ Associates in Lakewood, PA. After his retirement from professional accounting, he and his wife moved to Crystal River in 1990.

He was a communicant of St. Benedict's Catholic Church where he was a Lector and a President of its Men's Club, and together with his wife, were recipients of the Bishop's St. Jude Award. He was a member of the New York State Society of CPA's, the American Institute of CPA's, and an emeritus life member of the National Association of Accountants. He was President, Treasurer, and member of the Board of Directors of Hillcrest Village Property Owners Association.

He was an avid hunter, trap and skeet shooter, and a member of the Silver Dollar Trap & Skeet Club and Robinson Ranch Trap & Skeet Club. He was an avid fisherman and loved the Gulf of Mexico.

He was a past member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary 15-01, Crystal River. Mr. James was a veteran of the US Army. He received a commendation as General's Orderly while at basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, and served his active duty time of two years at Fort Jay Governor's Island, NY where he used his professional talents to design a maintenance accounting report system for the Nike Defense System of New York City during the Cold War.
