Angie was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on July 29, 1969. She was a 1987 graduate of Tahlequah High School and received her Bachelor of Science in criminal justice in 1991 from Northeastern State University, where she graduated summa cum laude. She later earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa in 1995, and graduated Order of the Curule Chair, being in the top 10 percent of her class. During her career, she worked for the Muskogee County District Attorney's Office and the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office but found her passion by serving as a public defender in Cherokee and Adair counties. She believed that everyone deserved exceptional legal representation regardless of their station in life and was particularly dedicated to serving her juvenile clients. Additionally, Angie served as a Supreme Court Justice for the Cherokee Nation and she and her husband owned and operated The Grill, a local eatery, where you might find her busing tables on a busy weekend. She often joked that she went to law school and became a waitress.
Angie was active in the Tahlequah community, serving as a Tahlequah Main Street Association board member and providing pro bono legal services to the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce when needed. In 2015, Jones received the President's Distinguished Service Award from the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce, she was a 2017 Cherokee Statesman Award recipient and most recently received the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System 2018 John Adams Award for Outstanding Advocacy.
In 1997, Angie married Dr. Steve Jones and together they raised their three children, Lindsey (Risenhoover) Vencl, Spencer Risenhoover and Wyatt Jones. She always said that her children were her greatest and most important accomplishments. Angie loved traveling, camping and spending time on the water. She loved making memories with her family and friends even if it was just sitting around the campfire. Throughout her courageous battle, she never lost her sense of humor and found something to be grateful for every single day.
