Rodney Lee Campbell was born April 8, 1933 in Lynchburg, Virginia. God sent His angles to take him home in the predawn of January 31, 2018 at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 23 days.

Rod served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956 with a tour of duty from 1953-1954 on a world cruise aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Tarawa as an Aviation Ordinance 3rd Class. Upon his discharge, he remained in the Naval Reserves until 1960. Rod was employed by Sears Roebuck and Company for 26 years from April 1970 until retirement in April 1996. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason.

Rodney took Madeleine Joy Robinson as his faithful and loving wife in Holy Matrimony on November 21, 1959 at the former Park Place Lutheran Church where they were active members until the church was decommissioned in September 2007. At that time they transferred their membership to Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where they continued to be active members.

Rod enjoyed traveling. He used to take his family on trips back to Virginia to visit family and historical sites that included revolutionary and civil war battle grounds. After retirement, Rod and Madeleine continued to travel. They visited areas like Akumal, Mexico; Alaska, Canada, New England and other places.

Rodney was preceded in death by his stillborn daughter; his son, Scott Kevin; his parents, Floyd and Fannie Campbell; brothers, Edward, Aubrey, Warren and Rucker; sisters, Myrtle, Maude, Marie, Lorraine and Odell; nephews, Stuart and Danny; niece, Pat.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 58 years, Madeleine. His eldest son, Chris Campbell. His youngest son, Greg and daughter-in-law, Laura Campbell. His daughter, Lorinda Campbell Gonzalez and son-in-law Juan Gonzalez. Grandsons, Wyatt and Grant Campbell. Granddaughters, Evelyn Aguilar and Zoe Gonzalez.

Rodney Lee was devoted to God and Country. A proud father, grandfather, loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He is the last of his siblings to join the family in God’s eternal kingdom. He will always live in our hearts and memories. Rod's memorial service will be this 11:00 AM Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 5700 Lawndale, Houston, Texas 77023.
