He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on June 25, 1952 at Ft. Knox, Hardin County, Kentucky. HQ 3rd Armoured Division. He was a wonderful husband to Edith, and dedicated, hard working father to seven children. He will be greatly missed. When Charles was a young man he worked in the Texas oil fields. For most of his adult life, he was a insurance agent for Bankers Life Company of Des Moines, Iowa and worked in the Odessa Texas offices, later he transferred to the Dallas Texas office. Charles was a Mason.
He has a very interesting Heritage which traced back to William The Conqueror. He was the grandson of William Benton Ayers and Dessie Bell Byrom. His great Grandparents were Reverend Thomas Daniel Ayers and Ida E. Looney. His Great-Great Grandparents were Thomas Jefferson Ayers and Lucy Ann Bennett.

Recently DNA (R1b) testing was done, tracing back to Moses Ayers Sr. and Elizabeth Vittito. It is strongly believed that Moses was son of Aaron Ayers
