Darlene Marie Harbaugh, 88, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa.

She was born on October 7, 1929, in Edgewood, the daughter of Willard and Ruth (Carnicle) Hines. Darlene was raised and educated in Edgewood. Her mother passed away when Darlene was seven years old and she became the head of the household, taking care of her family.

On June 24, 1947, Darlene was united in marriage Ivan L. Harbaugh. Ivan passed away on July 19, 1991.

The couple farmed together near Lamont, Volga, and then near Littleport. In 1976, they moved to Strawberry Point.

Darlene loved taking care of kids. She liked camping and going to garage sales. Darlene made the best sugar cookies and homemade bread. She loved her family and cherished the time they spent together.

Survivors include her three children, Jerry (Margie) Harbaugh, Randy (Kathy) Harbaugh, all of Edgewood, and Karen (Jim) Baumgartner of Strawberry Point; five grandchildren, Jeff (Deb) Harbaugh, Chrystina (James) Zobac, Jessica (Justin) Helmrich, Amanda (Dan) Genthe, and Kyle (Kelly) Baumgartner; 13 great-grandchildren; her special friend, Calvin Way of Independence; a special nephew, Terry (JoAnn) Price of Stanley; and many other nieces and nephews.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan Harbaugh in 1991; two sisters, Hazel Kellogg and Mae Cole; and four brothers, Melvin, Glen, Kenneth, and Ray Hines.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home, especially the staff of the memory care unit, for all of the special care they gave to Darlene.
