He graduated Boys High in 1944. Hub, as he was known by many, worked at Sullivan Hardware for many years in the electrical department. When Sullivan closed, he then worked for Crescent Supply for 23 years as an electrical parts salesman, traveling throughout the Upstate and Georgia. He retired at the age of 81.
Mr. Murphy was an active member of Flat Rock Baptist Church having served many times as a deacon. He oversaw the maintenance of the church for many years as well as being a long time Sunday School Director. Many men have attested to his mentorship as he brought them to church and was a positive influence in their lives.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 2, 2022, from 1:00-2:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:30 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Ed Hunsinger and Rev. Eddie Bledsoe officiating. A private burial will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, 908 Flat Rock Rd., Anderson, SC 29624 and Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
