Obituary for Ira M. Turner

Ira Miles Turner, age 87, of Louisburg, Kansas passed away at his home on July 27, 2018.

He was born December 17, 1930 in Formoso, KS, the son of Joseph and Lila Birdena (Briggs) Turner. He was united in marriage to Elenore L. (Baldwin) Towne on May 17, 1964.

Ira served proudly in the United States Navy from 1950 through 1954. He was stationed on the USS Wedderburn DD-684 and the USS Miller DD-535. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with four stars, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, the United States Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the China Service Medal. Ira retired after 29 years in aircraft avionics. He enjoyed his Ham Radio, antique autos, traveling and naval history.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and his wife, Elenore.

Survivors include one step-daughter, Marilyn Towne of Louisburg, KS; one step-son, Dennis (Melissa) Towne of Warrensburg, MO and three grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dengel & Son Funeral Home, Louisburg, KS.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Highland Cemetery, Hamilton, MO.

The family suggests contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project.
