Mae E. Ulmer, 91, of 4600 West Washington Street, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Donald Street, South Bend, died at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25, in St. Joseph Care Center West, South Bend.

Mrs. Ulmer was born on Jan. 15, 1909, in Mishawaka, Ind., to the late Calvin S. and Anna Mabel (Hay) Holdeman.



On Sept. 22, 1928, in South Bend, as Mae E. Holdeman, she married Wellington Ulmer, who died on Aug. 21, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald F. Ulmer in 1954. Mrs. Ulmer is survived by a daughter, Edna Mae Ulmer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Edna M. Huizinga of South Bend; and by a sister-in-law, Wilma Gilbert of Angola, Ind.



Mrs. Ulmer was a member of Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, South Bend, where she was a Sunday School teacher and the superintendent of the Beginner's Sunday School department. She graduated from Central High School in South Bend and attended Muncie Central College, Muncie, Ind.



Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, in Ridgedale Presbyterian Church, 1406 East Ewing, South Bend, with Rev. Jack Volkers officiating. Cremation will take place, with burial of the cremains at Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. The Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend, is in charge of the arrangements.

Gravesite Details

I was a care giver for Maes husband Wellington back in 1996. You couldn't ask for better people, they were both so kind, and appreciative of anything you did for them. I really enjoyed my time with them. I was always greeted with a warm smile.
