James Wilson Jr. was a Police Officer in Omaha, Nebraska. He was only a Patrolman for 1 year and 3 months. He died in the line of duty at age 24. He had pulled over a Van for having fictious plates. He had radioed his location just before two of eight gang members exited the side of the Van and opened fire on him. They used an AK-47 and a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol. Officer Wilson was killed while still sitting in his squad car, with his seat belt on and his microphone in his hand. The 8 suspects ranged from 14 to 20 years old, members of the Blood street gang. One suspect was found guilty on March 22nd, 1996 of first degree murder. He had been bragging to his fellow gang members that he wasn't going back to jail for any reason and was taking out the cop first. Officer Wilson was survived by his parents and fiance'.
