Margaret Jean Harrod, 92, of Burwell, Nebraska
passed away Sunday July 29, 2018 at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the First Congregational Church in Burwell. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 –7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Margaret Jean Walker was born May 4, 1926 to proud parents, Olive (Coffin) and Ralph Leo Walker, Sr. of Burwell. She was a devoted daughter to her parents and
sister to her brother, Ralph, Jr. (Jack).

She graduated from the Burwell High School in 1944 and attended two years at Doane College before marrying her high school sweetheart, John H. Schere, Jr. From this marriage Margaret had three children, Linda, Julie, and John David.

The young family lived for several years in Lexington, Nebraska before returning to Burwell and the family farm.

Margaret balanced working at the Soil Conservation Service office with being active in church, community, and her children's activities.

Being a music lover, she directed and accompanied on the piano the children at District #14 school in various programs and song contests.

She was a member of Eastern Star, PEO and Women's Fellowship at the First Congregational Church and sponsored Job's Daughters.

When the family moved to Lincoln, she worked in the personnel office of the University of Nebraska.

After Margaret and John were divorced, she returned to Burwell and became the Director of Park View Plaza.

On February 17, 1979 Margaret married Keith Harrod of Burwell.

Margaret and Keith are members of the Congregational Church, Margaret continued being active in Women's Fellowship, Bible study, and prayer groups.

She had been a PEO member for over seventy years.

Margaret always enjoyed playing bridge with her friends in her bridge club.

Margaret loved living in Burwell and being active in community activities, but she loved the time she spent with family even more.

She was loved and will be deeply missed by those who survive her: husband Keith, her children, Linda, (Steve) Gilbert of Duluth,MN, Julie (Michael) Graves Springfield, VA, and John (Melissa) Schere of Burwell, NE, and her stepchildren, Janet Nason of Pleasant Dale, NE, Gordon (Shannon) Harrod of Malcolm, NE, Pat (Paul) Awsiukiewicz of Ashland, NE, and Cheryl Swett of Burwell. Grandchildren: Jeff (Sara) Gilbert, Shannon Gilbert, Kristy Graves (Kevin Bradley), Julie (Scott) Mann, Jayme (Manny) Acuna, Sabrina (Tylr) Naprstek, Margot Nason, Natalie Nason, Andrea Hoffman, Dustin (Jana) Wood, Steve (Andrea) Swett, Jarrod (Emily) Swett, Sara (Logan) Krueger. Great grandchildren Eliza Gilbert, Maeve & Annabelle Bradley, Kelan & Carson Mann, Isaac & Tyson Naprstek, Corbin & Layla Hoffman, Bailey, Raegan, Dylan & Lily Wood, Simone & Naomi Swett, Colton & Keelan Patrick & Wren Swett.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her brother.
