Charles Edward “Chuck” Prewitt, 70, of River Ridge, Louisiana died peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at home surrounded by family.

Chuck was the only child of James Thomas Prewitt and Eileen McDaniel Prewitt, born in Danville, Kentucky on October 23, 1947.

After graduation from Taylorsville High School in 1965, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Kentucky, where he became a lifelong fan of the Kentucky Wildcats.

There he met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Trumbo, and they were married on August 16, 1968. They moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1970, where he took his first job as a Facility Engineer with Texaco. He joined Denson Engineers in 1974 as a Project Engineer and later completed his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Tulane University. Chuck assumed the role of President and Principal Mechanical Engineer at Denson in the mid-1980s and he was deeply committed to his business, the engineering community, and the field of Forensic Engineering. He held leadership positions in numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Louisiana Engineering Society (LES), National Academy of Forensic Engineers (NAFE), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and ASTM International. He was especially proud of his role as Chairman of the NCEES Mechanical Professional Engineer Examination Committee and spent many weeks in South Carolina on the campus of Clemson University ensuring that the exam was well written and a “good test” of real-world engineering knowledge and competency.

Chuck’s community involvement was extensive. He served as Chairman of the Soniat Basin Drainage Board, Treasurer of the River Ridge Civic Association, and held numerous church leadership positions at Parkway Presbyterian Church over the years. Most recently, he enjoyed his involvement and the friendships made in Sunday School class and Men’s Group at Munholland United Methodist Church.

He loved to travel with friends and family all over the world, with recent stops in France, Italy, Spain, Costa Rica, Argentina, and New Zealand. However, his favorite destinations were Kentucky and Chicago to visit family and fulfill his role as “Pappy” to his beloved grandsons Will, James, and Jack.

One of his greatest pleasures was heading up the “Crawfish Boil Crew” in Louisville each year to celebrate the Kentucky Derby.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Thomas Prewitt, and his mother, Eileen McDaniel Prewitt.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Trumbo “Pat” Prewitt, River Ridge, Louisiana; daughters, Lee Prewitt Kresovsky (Joseph), of Louisville, Kentucky; Elizabeth Prewitt Wells (Nathan), of Chicago, Illinois, and three grandsons, Joseph William “Will’ Kresovsky IV, James Franklin Wells, and John Alexander “Jack” Kresovsky.

Graveside service was held at the Lancaster Cemetery in Lancaster, Kentucky on August 16, 2018, the date of Chuck and Pat’s 50th wedding anniversary.
