Sheila Christine Evans was born the daughter of Carl William and Ethel Mayona (Powell) Hinrichs on August 25, 1947, in Neodesha, KS. She was raised and educated in Cherryvale, KS. She met James Evans at the Cherryvale cemetery by chance and soon after they started dating and were united in marriage on March 6, 1964, in Liberty, KS. Sheila and James made their home in Liberty, then for a short time in western Kansas before moving to Copan in 1977. Sheila worked at Bonanza Steak House for a short time before starting her 35 year career with Wal-Mart. She thought she was ready to retire in 1997 but within a year she went back to work at the Independence, KS, Wal-Mart. Over the years she cherished her friendships with co-workers and customers especially the last 10 as a door greeter where she encountered her favorite customers regularly. She retired a second time recently due to failing health issues.
Sheila loved garage sales, and on most Friday and Saturdays she left early looking for treasure and only returned in time to have lunch with James. In earlier years she enjoyed trips with the family to Branson, MO, and riding on James’s motorcycle. Recently they enjoyed drives to the Cracker Barrel her favorite restaurant and staying home with their two fur babies Brandy and Nakitia. After 54 years of loving marriage she slipped away to heaven with James by her side. She will be dearly missed.
Sheila is survived by her husband of the home James; two children Khristy Cosby and Corey of Copan, and Randy Evans and Shelly of Sand Springs; brother John Hinrichs of Cherryvale; sister Violet Ham and Jim of Bartlesville; and four grandchildren, Rachel Cosby, Walker Cosby, Aspen Evans and Brooke Evans. She is preceded in death by her parents and three sisters Darlene Dillow, Dee Fouch and Dorothy Hinrichs
Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel.
