Obituary
Dorothea Maria Henrietta Pierstorff, wife of Chas. Pierstorff, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fahnke, was born in Waren, Mechlingburg, Schwein, German, on Dec. 7, 1861. Being born of Christian parents who was obedient to the Lord’s command, their child was consecrated to the Triune God in Holy Baptism in her infancy. At the age of 10 years, the family emigrated to American and settled near Tamah, in Hopewll township, Mercer county. As a young girl she did domestic work in the hone of Rev. Philip Schmidt, who then was pastor of the Chattanooga and St. Paul’s congregation in Liberty township. Thee she attended confirmation school and after due instruction in the chief doctrine of God’s word joined the Lutheran church by the rite of confirmation. He may be said to her memory and honor that she ever remained faithful to her church and God whom she served to the age of nearly 18 years, she was joined in holy matrimony to Charles Pierstorff. There union was blessed with 13 children, 5 of whom preceded their mother to the grave. The deceased first lived with her husband on the Pierstorff homestead, but later removed tot the site of her late home where she spent about 31 years of her life honored and respected by all who know her. She helped raise her children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, always directing them in the way they shall go. Her health was generally good. Only once in late years as she seriously sick. Even to the last day of her life she was in good health and able to perform her household duties. Her end came very suddenly as a result of heart trouble, on Saturday morning at about 3 o’clock when she fell gently asleep awaiting the trumpet of the angel who bids all the dead to arise. She arrived at an age of 55 years and 30 days, and leaves to mourn her departure her husband, 8 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters, two brothers, one sister and seven grandchildren, other near relatives and many friends.
