Lorie was born on September 20, 1920, on a farm near Buffalo Center, Iowa to Henry and Stella Bronleewe. She attended the Buffalo Center School and graduated from high school in 1938. Lorie attended the First Baptist Church with her parents and accepted Christ as her Savior as a young girl. She was assured of eternal life because of her faith in the Gospel.

Lorie attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota for one year and then transferred to Waldorf College where she graduated in 1942. She worked at the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa as a medical records librarian for eight years.

On August 29, 1947, Lorie married Bernard (Barney) Aunan. The couple started their lives together in Sioux City, but due to Barney’s job transfers with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, they also lived in Des Moines, Keokuk, Davenport, and Omaha, finally settled in West Des Moines. All the while raising their two children, Carol born in 1950 and Steve in 1955.

Barney and Lorie loved to travel and have visited Europe at least sixteen times. While living in Des Moines, Lorie worked for Preferred Risk (now Guide One) for seventeen years and retired in 1985. She was active in her church through the years and has served the Lord in various capacities including singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, chairman of Women’s Missionary Society, and also leader of the Young at Heart ministry.

Lorie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ruth; and brother, Robert. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Barney; daughter, Carol; her son, Steven and daughter-in-law, Kristen; four grandchildren, Andrew (Heather), Tyler (Amy), Nicholas (Stacy), and Emily (JW); and nine great-grandchildren, Ashley, Luke, William, Weston, Avery, Maximus, Quinn, Jude, and Penelope.
