"Judge Joseph Little, whose death was announced in the Independent last week, was laid to rest Thursday afternoon in the Eskridge Cemetery, following services at the home conducted by Rev. A.J. Glans of Dover, and services at the M.E. Church in Eskridge conducted by Rev. E.J. Gardner. A large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the body to the grave. The pallbearers were R.C. Day, Alvin Gleason, B.R. Henderson, Sam Little, William Treu, and O.W. Little. Joseph H. Little was born Oct. 15, 1833, in Crawford County, state of Pennsylvania and passed away at his home on Mission Creek Dec. 20, 1921, at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 5 days. He was a young man enlisting in the cause of the North during the Civil War with Co. B., 83rd Reg. of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was wounded the second day of the seven days battle at Gaines Mills. He was taken prisoner and confined in Libby prison for six weeks. He was exchanged and discharged from Belvue Hospital in December and received his honorable discharge from the Army Dec. 27, 1862, because of disability. He came to Kansas in 1867 and settled in Wabaunsee County at which place he held residence until the day of his death. He was united in marriage Aug. 6, 1876, to Frances Ann Perkins on the Joseph Little farm on Mission Creek. To this union was born six children, four girls and two boys. He was preceded in death by a loving wife, who passed away about five years ago, and his son, Norman who died two years ago. He is survived by four daughters, Fannie Bower of Omaha, Edith Kent of Mission Creek, Edna Ballou of Spokane, Washington, Nina Little of Salina. One son survives, Frank W. Little of Kansas City, Kans. and six grandchildren. Judge Little was a Christian man for 75 years and was an active and honored member of the church, holding his membership in the Baptist church at Dover for years and being a member of that church at the time of his death."
