Edward Julian Shockley passed away peacefully in his sleep July 25, 2018. Ed was born in Augusta, Georgia October 31, 1924. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and eldest son Edward Julien Shockley, JR. He is survived by his loving wife of seventy-two years Dorothy Shockley; his son and daughter in law Steven and Ethel Shockley; his daughter in law Susie Shockley; his grandchildren Christopher [Kelly] Shockley, Nathanael [Shannon] Shockley, Matthew Shockley, and Samantha Shockley; and great grandchildren Savannah, Cooper, Noah, Ryder, Eli, Jasper, and Wyatt Shockley.

He graduated from Richmond Academy and enlisted in the Navy December 8, 1941 and served as an aviator during World War II. After the war he attended Georgia Institute of Technology, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering. Later he completed the Sloan program at Stanford University. He served as a flight test engineer at Douglas Aircraft Co. from 1950-1953.

He joined Lockheed-Georgia in 1953 as a flight test engineer. During his 33-year career at Lockheed he held posts as chief development engineer, chief engineer for commercial systems, C-5 deputy program manager, C-5 chief engineer and quality and safety director, and marketing vice president. In 1980 he was named president of Lockheed Aircraft Service Co., Ontario CA and vice president of Lockheed Corporation, Burbank, CA, parent company. He retired from this last position in 1987 and returned to Georgia.

Ed and his wife Dorothy were founding members of Cherokee Town and Country Club. They were long time members of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. Ed was an active supporter of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Stanford University Alumni Associations. Additionally, Ed supported several local charities including Boy Scouts of America, Assistance League, Shriners Hospital, and Atlanta Union Missions. He was a member of the Quiet Birdmen and the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.

A Celebration of Life Service and reception was held at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, 86 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Internment will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
