Barry Van Atkins, 39, of 8205 Caffey Drive, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Holden Beach as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park.

A native of Guilford County, Barry was born Feb. 23, 1963 to Jack Roland and Eleanor Gray B. Atkins. Barry was a builder in Greensboro for 11 years. His first passion was his God and his family. Barry was actively involved at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and a mentor. His heart's desire was to see people come to know God in a personal way through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his loving wife of 11 years, Rachel Stewart Atkins of the home. He is survived by five beautiful children, daughters, Susanna Carol Atkins, Rosalynn Joy Atkins, Caroline Elizabeth Atkins, Elaina Rose Atkins; and son, Josiah David Atkins, all of the home; parents, Jack R. And Eleanor B. Atkins of Greensboro; sisters, Patricia Hinshaw of Pleasant Garden, Diane Godfrey of Brown Summit, Wendy Elks and Wanda Jackson, both of Greensboro, Cheryl Ryals of Randleman and Pam Mimms of Pelham; brother, Roland Atkins of Greensboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service and other times at the home.
