Henry Allen Parker, Sr. May 20, 1932 – July 27, 2018 Mr. Parker was a lifelong resident, supporter and contributor of the Morris community, where he graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School in 1950 as Valedictorian of the class. He was an elder and lifelong member of the Morris Church of Christ and the Decatur Highway Church of Christ. Henry has long been a diligent servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, honoring the Lord as a faithful Christian, dedicated husband and father, and providing spiritual oversight to the Lord’s church. His greatest accomplishments lie in the hearts of the numerous individuals whom he touched in life-changing ways through his compassionate mentorship. He is preceded in death by his parents, George A. Parker and Alma Parker; brothers, Horace Parker and Melvin Simpson; loving wife of 63 years, Connie Ruth Mulvehill Parker. He is survived by his sons, Henry Allen Parker, Jr. (Betsy), Stanley Ray Parker (Patti); grandchildren, Melissa Dempsey (Michael), Jennifer Rhodes (Mark), Julie Parker, Cassie Thomas (Scott); great-grandchildren, Ava, Savannah, and Jaxon Dempsey, Kalin and Myka Rhodes, and Hunter Johnson. Mr. Parker married the love of his life after graduating high school. He joined the Unites States Air Force and began his exceptional career upon returning from the service. Early on, he was employed by U.S. Steel in the American Bridge Division’s Engineering Services while achieving his Engineering Degree from the University of Alabama. Henry also developed residential property before becoming the Chief Engineer of Planet Corporation as a licensed professional engineer. As a charter member of the inception of Walpar, Inc., Henry acquired the assets of Planet Corporation and transformed the organization into a leading supplier of engineering and fabrication services for the rail and highway industries across the U.S. His leadership established an unprecedented culture of quality and service for both his clients and employees which continues to this day. Mr. Parker was an active contributor and advisor to many social, educational, and charitable organizations among his many entrepreneurial successes. A dedicated supporter of Faulkner University, Henry served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, a member of the Board of Trustees of Faulkner University, and Chairman of the Board during the most successful capital campaign in its history. The Harris-Parker Building, which houses the V.P. Black College of Biblical Studies and the Cloverdale Center for Family Strengths, carries his namesake in honor of his years of service and contributions. Faulkner University further recognized his service with an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. In 1999, he was awarded by UAB as Alumni of the Year – Civil Engineering. Truly, the awards Mr. Parker received are too many to list, yet none are greater than returning home to the Lord. His marriage of 63 years was more than exceptional. He often expressed that his successes in life were a result of the devotion and dedication of Miss Connie. They are true soul-mates united again in heaven. Henry, Allen and Stan were inseparable, enjoying both work and hobbies together with an unbreakable bond. He was their mentor in business and in life, and they all share the same pride in one another. He loved to travel with Miss Connie and his family; He loved Alabama football, and the only thing that he would miss a game for was quail hunting with his bird dogs. All of his relationships run deep because of the way he was able to impact the core of others. His legacy is one of integrity, servant leadership, and sharing wisdom with a kind and gentle spirit. He was the same wonderful man in every part of his life, and he made the rest of us better individuals – always.
