Billie was born February 24, 1945 in Trezevant, Tennessee to Richard and Janie (Adkisson) Phillips.
After High School he relocated to Champaign and was employed at Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Champaign where he retired after 40+ years. Billie loved God. He loved his family, especially holiday gatherings, and laughed often. He enjoyed church, fishing, gardening, traveling, trying new foods, cruises, card games, NBA’s Golden State Warriors, people and pets. He loved sharp suits, wore them often and even modeled in fashion shows. He never met a stranger.
Billie leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Minnie Pearson-Phillips of Champaign; one daughter, Tameka Cherise Phillips of Indianapolis; one step-daughter, Lucretia (Otis) Williams of Champaign; two loving step-sons, Byron (Vivian) Ford of Urbana, Illinois and Deeno Pearson of New Hope, Minnesota; four step-grandchildren, Zoe and Cameron Ford of Urbana, Chumar Williams of Champaign and Britney Damery of Denver, Colorado; four sisters-in-law, Irene Phillips, Onterial Phillips and Delores (Ricky) Hendricks all of Urbana and Vernita Phillips-Cunningham of McKenzie, Tennessee; a special cousin, Ruby Hunt of Urbana; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and special friends, John Ellis and all of his workout buddies at the Leonard Center Recreational Center in Champaign.
He is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Janie Phillips, and nine siblings (six brothers & three sisters), R.L. Phillips, James Robert Phillips, Willard Phillips, Andrew Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Russell Phillips, Mildred Phillips-Hunt, Patty Sue Phillips-Bigham, and Virginia Phillips-Dupree.
