The most beautiful love story. Heaven gained two angels. Evelyn Bennett Drake passed away surrounded by family, and within 48 hours of losing his beloved wife of 78 years, Gilbert Orzell Drake joined her in heaven. Both died peacefully at home. Gilbert always said ladies before gentleman, and it was that way right to the end. Evelyn would have been 99 years old on August 8, and Gilbert would have been 101 on August 10.

Evelyn was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. She loved children so much that after raising her own three, she started a nursery school called Playtime, which she ran out of her home in Delmar, NY. She was the longest living member of the Delmar Reformed Church, which she attended her entire life.

Gilbert was a World War II veteran and later was the owner and operator of DA Bennett in Delmar.

Evelyn and Gilbert cherished their times with family in their backyard pool, attending their grandchildrens’ school events and going on family trips. When they were not with family, they shared a love for travelling the world and playing bridge.

In their spare time at home, Evelyn loved crafts and Gilbert played the viola. There is no question, they were the most devoted couple and set a wonderful example of life and love.

They are survived by their children Richard (Margaret Elvin) Drake, Virginia Nash and Thomas (Cynthia) Drake; their grandchildren, Ethan (Erin) Drake, Elizabeth (David) Officer, Nathaniel Drake, Tyler Nash, Peter (Karina) Drake, and their great grandchildren, Caroline Officer and Henry Drake.

A private family service will be held graveside.
