He was a retired truck driver from Hickory Springs. He was known to his trucker friends as The Bandit.
His two greatest accomplishments in life were making preparation to meet his Savior and reading his Bible through 7 times.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dana and Katherine Lawson; and nine brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rennee Phillips Lawson; daughters, Stephanie Hopson of Bulls Gap and Beth (Freddie) Burchell of Rutledge; six grandkids, Harley and Tyler Hopson of Bulls Gap, Dylan, Josh, Cody and Logan Burchell of Rutledge; brother, Lynn Lawson; and sister, Mart Allen, both of Rogersville.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 22, 2018, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 PM with Rev. Dannie Bell, Rev. Lee Wayne Grubb, and Rev. Scott Farmer officiating. The graveside service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM in Phillips Cemetery.
